Clean Agent Fire Suppression System Installation – Industrial Facility, Northern Alberta
Project Overview:
Rotaflow was engaged to deliver a clean agent fire suppression system installation for an industrial facility in Northern Alberta, focused on protecting five Motor Control Centers (MCCs) containing critical electrical infrastructure.
Because these assets play an essential role in day-to-day operations, the project required a fire protection solution that could provide fast response while avoiding damage to sensitive equipment. Rotaflow’s scope included the installation and coordination of five independent clean agent systems, designed to help protect each MCC room as a dedicated hazard area.
This project involved a special hazard fire suppression application, using InControl Clean Agent systems with Janus detection and control technology, selected to support reliable fire detection, suppression performance, and system monitoring.

The Challenge:
Protecting critical electrical assets in industrial environments comes with unique challenges. In this project, the primary objective was to provide reliable fire protection for five MCC rooms, where even a small fire event could lead to costly equipment damage, downtime, and operational disruption.
One of the key technical requirements was maintaining room integrity, which is essential for a clean agent system to perform as intended. The suppression agent must be retained within the protected space long enough to effectively extinguish a fire. Achieving this requires attention not only to the fire suppression equipment itself, but also to the integrity of the room and supporting systems.
Coordinating fire protection, electrical systems, and detection controls within an active industrial environment added another layer of complexity.
Rotaflow’s Solution:
Rotaflow delivered a solution centered on five independent clean agent fire suppression systems, each designed to protect a dedicated MCC room. This approach provided targeted protection while supporting system reliability and easier maintenance over the long term.
Working with InControl Clean Agent systems and Janus controls, Rotaflow coordinated the installation to integrate suppression, detection, and releasing functions into a complete fire protection solution.
By combining engineering oversight, field coordination, and specialized fire protection expertise, the team provided a solution designed to help protect critical electrical assets while supporting overall facility safety.
Implementation:
The project was executed through a coordinated effort involving multiple disciplines, including fitters, electricians, fire alarm technicians, engineering support, and project management.
Key implementation activities included:
- Installing five independent clean agent fire suppression systems
- Coordinating detection, releasing controls, and system interfaces
- Integrating Janus control technology for monitoring and response
- Supporting room integrity requirements for effective agent performance
- Coordinating installation activities within an active industrial facility
- Preparing systems for testing, commissioning, and final verification
Close collaboration across the project team helped ensure the work progressed efficiently and in alignment with project requirements.
Results:
The project delivered dedicated clean agent fire protection for five MCC rooms, helping safeguard critical electrical assets within the facility.
Project outcomes included:
- Installation of five independent clean agent suppression systems
- Enhanced protection for mission-critical MCC electrical infrastructure
